Jeweller Jane's Jottings!

Sunday, 4 November 2007

I know it has been a long break from my blogging - my sister rang to tell me off!

I have been busy making bridal jewellery for the wedding fair season which is from September to April. I have launched my ranges which are proving popular but still commissioned tiaras reign supreme!

My ranges are lily, elven/Lord of the Rings, ivy, rose, poppy and I am working on daisy too.

The hotel was beautiful and I was really pleased with the way my stand looked, this was my first fair both with my bridal jewellery on its own and without Lincs Wedding Ring.

The fair went well and I received loads of lovely comments about my jewellery (which always does a girl good!) and a lot of interest in my commissioning service. Rachel (the florist) also had her own stand there, which looked fabulous. It was great that we had stands next to each other so we could nip off for a toilet break without worrying about leaving the stand unattended.

Was worn out by the time I got home but really happy with the day. My next fair is in 2 weeks so will have two weeks in the workshop with no panic about packing stuff as it is already in boxes - yipee!

How good is your memory?

Do you remember many moons ago I promised you photos of the first wedding fair for Lincolnshire Wedding Ring? Well here they are.

Ta Ta Tiara

I have finished the tiara and am delighted with it - I am taking it to the client on Friday so fingers crossed she is happy with it.

Also made a couple of bracelets for a commission and the clients were delighted which is always good to know. I am thinking of including a testimonials page on the website.

I love weddings!

I have been commissioned to do some bridal jewellery. It is really exciting making something for a wedding because you feel part of the celebrations. The tiara is to be in a Lord of the Rings but modern style and the bride was chuffed with my sketches. Have started making it and am delighted with the result so far.

It has made me consider the events I will attend - I enjoyed doing the wedding fair a lot. People who are getting married know what they want and if it isn't available they will have it made. To be part of that is special.

Too snotty!

I know graphic title! It seems I have had a cold since my flu ended which is 2 months ago! I am complaining big style - its not like me to be ill and I can't say I am enjoying the experience. Anyhow - am visiting a potential customer on Tuesday who wants a tiara making and I am thrilled. I love tiaras, in fact I had a designing frenzy so have lots I would like to make but I am trying to restrain myself!!

My friend is wanting a ring made so I have just ordered a blue topaz which I have not worked with before so something new - yeah!

Uploaded some pictures of jewellery I had taken and found this necklace which was one designed for a client who has a shop and wanted a piece which was based on her logo. I was really pleased with it and so was she!

It is not my usual style but it was fun to do for that very reason.

I am now a member of the Association of Contemporary Jewellers and have also been accepted as an Associate Member of the Design Factory which will raise my profile in Lincolnshire.

The dogs are still jumping up but they make me smile every day - there is nothing like the greeting a dog gives.

Off for lunch!

Billingborough Ladies Pamper Evening

Not overcrowded it has to be said! In fact I would have been bored to death if my friend hadn't been there. We had our picture taken and we may be in the local press - and may be not!

I have finished a ring for a customer. I really enjoyed making it, it is a previous design but because of the size I could make it a little wider and put on a bigger stone so it looks different and I am chuffed with it! I hope she will be.

I made a few poppy pieces to see what people thought and have had a good reaction so I will be adding some to my website soon.

I made these stud earrings which I am really pleased with.

I have also made this commission brooch of a labrador which was interesting to do as it was so different from my usual commissions. I was a little dubious at first but am thrilled with the result. A lovely surprise for me and the client was over the moon - which is the best bit.

Wedding Fair

I had a fabulous time at the Wedding Fair. I went to pick Diane up (the one who makes cards) and we set off in great weather to Lincoln. We found the showground no problem, my only niggle was that the signs for the fair were tiny. We were looking for them and nearly missed the A4 paper! We went into the room and were met by the best sight of all - our stand was near the entrance and next to the bar - yipee! The organisers had covered all the tables with the same material which was a great start - it helps a lot to have the table covered for you! We added our bits as we had done in the mock-up. Linda (the wedding organiser) had brought her box of tricks which included sparkly stars for the table and things I would never have thought of!

Sharon (the photographer) arrived bring the printed boards and some photos she had printed onto card. Once it was all finished I stood back and must say was really surprised how professional and cohesive our stand looked. We all thought we would be learning on this one but WOW it looked fabulous - I was really impressed. Picture to follow.

It gave my confidence a boost with people saying lovely things about my lily pieces. This has spurred me on to make more of the bridal range I offer. I am also going to develop the flower ranges. Daisies, poppies and lilies, also I am thinking of making a buttercup so I can make a buttercup and daisy tiara - watch this space! Its going to be a statement piece if I can achieve the image in my head!!!
